Carlos Ulberg has publicly stated his strong interest in acting as a backup fighter for the highly anticipated bout between Magomed Ankalaev and Alex Pereira. His proactive stance highlights a unique ambition within the UFC.
During a press conference, Ulberg recounted his conversation with UFC executive Hunter Campbell:
“I talked to Hunter Campbell right after the fight and asked him to bring me to Las Vegas. He said “sure”, so everything is great. I said that I want to be the backup.”
Ulberg emphasized his ambition to make history, noting:
“I am here to set records. I don’t think anyone has fought for a title the next weekend after a fight. That’s what I imagine. And I have already stated this.”
He concluded by reiterating his readiness for the role:
“First, I want to be in Las Vegas. If the UFC makes me the backup — cool. I will do the job if someone “falls out”.”

« Je suis ici pour établir des records. Je ne pense pas que quiconque ait combattu pour un titre le week-end suivant un combat. C`est ce que j`imagine. Et je l`ai déjà dit. »
Il a conclu en réitérant sa disponibilité pour ce rôle :
« D`abord, je veux être à Las Vegas. Si l`UFC fait de moi le remplaçant — cool. Je ferai le travail si quelqu`un « se retire ». »
