Joshua Kimmich, captain of the German national team, has confirmed he will not return to a central midfield role for the upcoming friendly matches, even with injuries sidelining fellow midfielders Aleksandar Pavlović and Felix Nmecha.
Despite regularly featuring in central midfield for Bayern Munich, Kimmich has primarily been deployed as a right-back for Germany under coach Julian Nagelsmann. With Pavlović and Nmecha both withdrawn due to injury ahead of the friendly encounters against Switzerland and Ghana, speculation arose about a potential shift for Kimmich.
However, Kimmich stated at a press conference on Tuesday that such a move is not planned. He emphasized, « No, I am convinced that I can bring my qualities as a right-back just as well as in midfield. »
The 31-year-old also expressed optimism for the upcoming games, anticipating « two positive and good performances. » He underscored the importance of focusing on immediate challenges rather than the distant World Cup, noting, « We need to focus on what is immediately ahead. We cannot focus on the World Cup yet – the squad might look a bit different by then anyway. »

Il a insisté sur l’importance de se concentrer sur les défis immédiats plutôt que sur la Coupe du Monde lointaine, notant : « Nous devons nous concentrer sur ce qui nous attend immédiatement. Nous ne pouvons pas encore nous concentrer sur la Coupe du Monde – l’effectif pourrait de toute façon être un peu différent à ce moment-là. »
