The Round of 16 at the Men’s World Championship in Pasay City, Philippines, began on Saturday with intense matches. Türkiye made history by coming from behind to defeat the Netherlands 3-1, securing their first-ever quarterfinal berth. Later, Poland continued their strong tournament run, overcoming Canada with a 3-1 victory.
The Netherlands initially took the lead, winning the first set 29-27 after a closely contested finish, putting Türkiye under early pressure.
However, the momentum shifted in the second set. From a 22-22 deadlock, Türkiye held firm to equalize the match. Their confidence visibly surged, leading to a dominant third set where they showcased superior attacking, calmer defense, and greater composure, securing it 25-19.
Türkiye carried this momentum into the fourth set. Efe Mandıracı initiated with three consecutive aces, establishing an early 4-0 lead that the Dutch couldn`t overcome. With each successful rally, Türkiye edged closer to victory, eventually sealed by Mandıracı`s final point, concluding the match 3-1 (27-29, 25-23, 25-19, 25-19).
Adis Lagumdzija was instrumental in Türkiye`s comeback, racking up 28 points and providing crucial leadership. For the Netherlands, Michiel Ahyi`s 21 points were a valiant effort but ultimately insufficient.
This victory is more than just a quarterfinal spot for Türkiye; it represents their highest-ever finish at a Men’s World Championship, surpassing their 11th-place achievement in 2022.
Poland began their match against Canada strongly, securing the first set with a comfortable lead. However, Canada fought back fiercely in the second, matching Poland point for point before narrowly winning 25-23, leveling the contest and suggesting a potentially long battle.
Nevertheless, Poland reasserted their dominance in the third set, improving their attack and serving precision. They held Canada at bay to win 25-20, and their lead only grew in the subsequent set. The fourth set was clearly in Poland`s favor, as they quickly pulled ahead and closed it 25-14, confirming their spot in the quarterfinals.
Kamil Semeniuk led Poland with 18 points, showcasing a well-rounded performance in both attack and serve. Ryan Sclater Sho was Canada`s standout player, scoring 23 points and keeping his team competitive through the initial three sets.
Poland demonstrated superior defense and rally control, leading in digs 57 to 48. Conversely, Canada showed strength in reception, achieving 86 successful receptions compared to Poland`s 56.
Following these results, Türkiye is poised to extend their historic journey against formidable opponents in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Poland will aim to maintain their consistent performance as they pursue a deep run in the tournament. Both nations are now just one victory shy of the semifinals.

Le huitième de finale du Championnat du Monde Masculin, qui se tenait à Pasay City aux Philippines, a débuté samedi avec des matchs intenses. La Türkiye a marqué l`histoire en remontant pour vaincre les Pays-Bas 3-1, s`assurant ainsi sa toute première place en quarts de finale. Plus tard dans l`après-midi, la Pologne a poursuivi son excellent parcours dans le tournoi, s`imposant face au Canada par 3-1.
Les Pays-Bas avaient initialement pris l`avantage, remportant le premier set 29-27 après une fin très disputée, mettant la Türkiye sous pression dès le début.
Cependant, l`élan a changé au cours du deuxième set. À 22-22, la Türkiye a tenu bon pour égaliser le match. Leur confiance a visiblement augmenté, menant à un troisième set dominant où ils ont montré une attaque supérieure, une défense plus calme et une plus grande maîtrise, le remportant 25-19.
La Türkiye a maintenu cet élan au quatrième set. Efe Mandıracı a débuté avec trois aces consécutifs, établissant une avance rapide de 4-0 que les Néerlandais n`ont pas pu rattraper. Chaque échange gagné rapprochait la Türkiye de la victoire, finalement scellée par le dernier point de Mandıracı, concluant le match 3-1 (27-29, 25-23, 25-19, 25-19).

Le quatrième set a été clairement en faveur de la Pologne, qui a rapidement pris l`avantage et l`a conclu 25-14, confirmant ainsi sa place en quarts de finale.

Les deux nations ne sont désormais qu`à une victoire des demi-finales.
