Despite being only 20 years old, Dean Huijsen has already experienced a remarkably dynamic career trajectory. He then made a significant move to the Premier League with Bournemouth, and subsequently, a year later, secured a transfer to La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid. However, the Spanish international`s promising path could have unfolded quite differently, as revealed by his agent, Ali Barat, in an interview with the French media outlet RMC Sport.
Huijsen`s transfer to Bournemouth from Juventus, finalized in the summer of 2024 for a fee just under €20 million, came on the heels of his breakthrough performance during his loan period at Roma. According to Barat, Bournemouth was not the sole club vying for his signature at that time.
Barat disclosed that a move to Paris Saint-Germain was, in fact, a « genuine possibility » for the talented defender. He specifically noted, « Luís Campos [PSG’s sporting director] was among the very first to recognize Huijsen’s immense potential, and in 2024, PSG genuinely presented a real option for his future. » This statement underscores the strong interest from the Parisian giants.
The agent further elaborated on the core reason behind his client`s pivotal decision to opt for the Vitality Stadium rather than the illustrious Parc des Princes. « Dean firmly believed he would secure more consistent and regular playing time at Bournemouth compared to what he might expect at PSG, » Barat explained.
